A domestic injunction — commonly called a restraining order — is a protective court order documenting past harmful actions or threats and restricting an aggressor’s contact with the person it protects. A temporary injunction is valid for 15 days while a hearing is scheduled to determine whether it should be extended, made indefinite, or allowed to expire, and violating one can lead to criminal charges.
